Abstract

The article discusses the strategies of reading and understanding early medieval Daoist texts. It states that the history of Daoism remains one of the least understood fields of Chinese history of religion and philosophy due to the difficulty in understanding the texts. However, an intended reader approach to interpretation of texts offers an interpretative tool to read the texts as multidimensional, relating to different aspects, interests, and needs of the human beings the text addressed.
