| Abstract | Discusses the work of the Taiwanese painter Hung Tung (1920-1987). The author analyses Tung's decision to dedicate his life to painting, describes how he exhibited his scroll works on trees on a nearby temple, and traces the increasing interest in his work in the the 1970s with reference to his first exhibition at the American Information Centre in Taipei. He notes the development of his work from coloured ink work to small sketches in the 1970s, considers the importance of Taoist beliefs in his work, and situates his work within the context of ancestral Chinese tradition. |
