- Im in my 2nd year of a PhD in Fine Art, at the Slade School of Fine Art, in UCL. I am working on a hypothesis of what I call 'trans-dimensional running' as a psychogeographical strategy to 'run' (navigate, manage and negotiate) our lives in this Internet-mediated multiverse today. Apart from the sports of running itself, I am also referring to new media theories about the Internet, psychogeography as well as Daoism to construct this (slightly absurdist!) hypothesis. What I like about Daoism for my hypothesis specifically is how, as far as I understand, aspects of Daoism can be a holistic 'way of life' that fliters the world through the individual's body, which is essentially what I am proposing for my hypothesis. As my PhD is 'practice-related' I am also creating an art work at the same time to complement my written thesis. I am interested in Daoism in the following areas: cosmic body; body-in-world, world-in-body; ecstatic journeys; wandering hermits; yangsheng; xiuyang; wuwei, notions of longevity and immortality; absurdity in Daoism (Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi's witticism; the drunken and 'mad' behaviours of the immortal and so on); the notions of life and death and readings and interpretations the Daodejing.
